Community Involvement

I have been involved in community service for as long as I remeber, as my clothes that are either to small for me, or clothes that I simply don’t wear anymore are given to charity almost every year. During my junior school years we often had food drives and drives for animal organizations such as the SPCA, raising money and food for them.

In my high school career I was a part of the schools debutantes programme where we managed to raise R480 000 within that year, and within the year, we visited various orphanages, where the children could not be cared for by their parents or guardians because of a lack of money, and at the end of the year we were able to throw a Christmas party for them, which, to me, was the main highlight of my grade 10 year, because you can tell that the children don’t often get these opportunities and recieve that much love and attention.

At my chuch St Micheals, our youth group went to macro to buy  community food and toiletries and any other baic neccesities and took them to that community and spent the day there learning more about the people and playing with them. I enjoyed that experience a lot as well as seeing the appreciation they felt.

I love to write and read poetry, I feel that languages are beautiful and the way people are able to express themeslves always has me in awe. I read to learn as well as dream. Included in my love for literature are various plays, as I go to the theatre with my mother often and I learnt that the actors only portray what the script writer hoped would be conveyed but the true essence of the play and its true characteristics lay in the script and the adjectives and embelishments of each character and event.

  • Ways of Dying by Zakes Mda
  • Nothing but the Truth by John Kani
  • Tshepang by Lara Foot
  • I know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
  • Closer by Patrick Maber

Personal Achievements/Highlights

My life has been a journey of highs and lows, but recently I think the achievements that I have made for one would be reaching Matric at such a high academic standard. Knowing that people trust you to drive others to reach a goal is amazing as I was elected to be a cheerleader on a few occations for both my House as well as my school during Inter-house events and The Inter-High. Another achievement was camp and being able to do things and push my body to be capabe of doing the physically impossible. A very imporant achievement for me was on the 18th of December when my family was celebrating my Grandmother’s 80th birthday, I designed the traditional atire that the aunts wore called ‘seshweshwe’, which was an amazing experience for me. another highlight of my life was going overseas for the very first time in 2010, and i was in awe of the beauties of Europe.

My Mission Statement and Personal Philosophy

Mission Statement

After finnishing my matric year at St Mary’s DSG, I hope to obtain an LLB degree in a tertiary institution. Further more I’d like to become a human rights lawyer, and hopefully work for the United Nations.

Personal Philosophy

Intellectual:After my matric year I would like to do my LLB degree at Rhodes University in Grahmstown so as to start my career as a human rights lawyer. However before I work at a law firm I would like to start an internship at the International Bar Association Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) so that I can gain the necessary experience in taking cases that advance human rights, the rule of law, public interest and constitutional issues in Southern Africa. I would also like to be part on the UN international law appreciation programme for young lawyers so that I can learn further more how to familiarize myself with developments in the field of International law. I hope to have a career at Eversheds law firm. whilst working at Eversheds, I would like to obtain a post graduate degree.

Physically:I hope to become fit as I am currently not doing any activities that would help my fitness levels. I would like to make sure that my BMI stays as is as I am “percieved” as perfectly healthy in terms of the ratio of my height and mass. In universtity I would l like to get a membership at a gym so as to be fit, healthy and active.

Socially: When I matriculate I hope to find new friends and build new relationships with different people wherever I go, but I would also like to keep some of my friends from high school that have helped me grow, and that have supported me. I hope to keep in contact with my family and not be too busy for them.

Spiritually: I want to remain strong in my faith as I go to a school that helps shape ones religious identity and I hope the foundation of Christianity that I have built for myself remains strong.

My Bio

Hello fellow bloggers =)

My name is Letsatsi Ribane, but I am hardly called by that as my family calls me Matjatji as a term of endearment so when I am being called by my full name, I know its trouble! I am also known as Litchi, Sunshine, Sunny, Sungoddess<—– lol if you’ve noticed a pattern it’s because my name means sunshine, I’m also commenly called by my second name ‘Nini, and Tsatsi. I live in Johannesburg, but I go to school at St Mary’s DSG in Pretoria where I am doing my final year of high school (YAY!!)

Before hand I attended Crossroads and St Stithians Prepatory school for my junior years an dwent to St Mary’s DSG and have been a boarder for a thick 5years of my life and have been enjoying the perks of having your friends around you all the time and the triles and tribulations of doing laundry and food that doesnt quite fit the catagory of a “good ‘ol home cooked meal”

During my school years I have participated in many activities. In Junior school a I had to juggle swimming, tennis, soccer, ballet, hiphop and extra lessons. Thankfully those activities eased for the sake of the heavy work load that came with growing up and entering high school, I did netball and a club called Film Fanatics. I am also a Sacristian at my school which means that I was chosen to serve God in chapel, which was a great honor.

Please see my blogs and learn more =)
Stay uber cool
