I have been involved in community service for as long as I remeber, as my clothes that are either to small for me, or clothes that I simply don’t wear anymore are given to charity almost every year. During my junior school years we often had food drives and drives for animal organizations such as the SPCA, raising money and food for them.
In my high school career I was a part of the schools debutantes programme where we managed to raise R480 000 within that year, and within the year, we visited various orphanages, where the children could not be cared for by their parents or guardians because of a lack of money, and at the end of the year we were able to throw a Christmas party for them, which, to me, was the main highlight of my grade 10 year, because you can tell that the children don’t often get these opportunities and recieve that much love and attention.
At my chuch St Micheals, our youth group went to macro to buy community food and toiletries and any other baic neccesities and took them to that community and spent the day there learning more about the people and playing with them. I enjoyed that experience a lot as well as seeing the appreciation they felt.
